Photos Of The First Ever Plastic Surgery [Graphic]
World War I was one of the most destructive and violent wars the world has ever known. At least 2 million people died in the war, and the number of people injured was much higher than that. While many soldiered returned home in one piece, there are many others who returned home injured and badly disfigured. In the U.K., the work of one man, Dr. Harold Gillies, would let many of them live a normal life again.
Harold Gillies was a doctor and soldier during the first World War, serving in France. During his time there he witnessed first hand the efforts of a French-American dentist to repair the teeth of soldiers who had been injured by bullets.
Seeing this inspired Gillies, and made him see the importance of facial repair for injured soldiers. In 1917 he returned to England where he persuaded members of the military to open a facial injury ward at Cambridge Military Hospital.
The small facial injury ward quickly proved to be a success, and a new hospital was opened exclusively for facial repairs in June, 1917.
The Queen's Hospital could accommodate over 1,000 patients with facial injuries, and they were quickly at capacity.Over the following years Gillies and his colleagues developed the practice of modern day plastic surgery. They performed over 11,000 surgeries on about 5,000 soldiers who were disfigured during the war.
Many consider Gillies to be the father of plastic surgery. Many of the techniques he and his team developed were used for many years. In 1930 he was knighted for his work.
During World War II he worked with the British government to establish plastic surgery units across the country.Following the end of the second World War Gillies ran a private practice and trained many doctors in the techniques of plastic surgery.

Arab Rebels Carry Out Mass Rape On Sudan Women and Girls
More than 200 women and girls were collectively raped in their village on Friday evening, reportedly by Sudanese soldiers belonging to a military garrison south of ElFasher in North Darfur.
80 of the victims were schoolgirls, 105 were unmarried girls. The other victims were married women. The residents of Tabit have not been able yet to transfer the wounded to other towns or medical centres. One of the elders in Tabit village told Radio Dabanga that the commander of the military garrison, located half a kilometre north of Tabit, came to the village on Friday morning, claiming that one of his soldiers went missing on Thursday evening.
He gave the villagers until sunset to retrieve the missing soldier."We were caught by surprise when soldiers surrounded Tabit at 8 pm," the village elder told. "They beat the people with rifle butts and chased all of the men outside the village. Then they started to rape about 200 women and girls, which lasted from Friday evening until 4 am on Saturday."They also prevented us from transferring the wounded to El Fasher city, the Unamid base, or to Shangil Tobaya," the witness stressed.
He appealed to the human rights and humanitarian organisations, as well as the United Nations, to save the village and bring the perpetrators and those involved in the event to the International Criminal Court

Nicki Minaj Smashed Her Boyfriends Car .>> See why
Now we know why Nicki Minaj and her longtime boyfriend broke up ... one of them was on the verge of going to jail after she smashed the windows of his Mercedes with a baseball bat. Here's what we know. During the summer, Nicki and Safaree Samuels got into an argument. She started screaming, he got pissed, and she EXPLODED in anger, grabbing a bat and chasing him out of the house. She wisely chose property over person, and pulverized the 2012 Benz. And for bad measure, she threw his clothes in the garbage -- just like in the movies.Law enforcement sources tell us ... cops were called to the house, but no arrests were made. Safaree was escorted out of the house and left.As for why Nicki didn't get in trouble... it appears she owned the Mercedes, but allowed him to use it, and you can't get arrested for destroying your own property. They broke up a short time later. Wise move.

Photos- See what Someone Did With Bananas
Artists have things that inspire them to make their art. They’re known as muses. But, what if your muse is a banana? Yes, you read right. A banana. Someone was actually inspired enough to sculpt out faces, and figures out of a banana. A little odd, and interesting all at once.

Catholic Bishops Accept Gays Says They Have A Gift To Offer
Catholic bishops are showing unprecedented openness to accepting the real lives of many Catholics today, saying gays have gifts to offer the church and should be accepted and that there are"positive" aspects to a couple living together without being married.
A two-week meeting of bishops on family issues arrived at its halfway point Monday with a document summarizing the closed-door debate so far. No decisions were announced, but the tone of the preliminary document was one of almost-revolutionary acceptance, rather than condemnation, with the aim of guiding Catholics toward the ideal of a lasting marriage.
The bishops said gays had "gifts and qualities" to offer and asked rhetorically if the church was ready to provide them a welcoming place, "accepting and valuing their sexual orientation without compromising Catholic doctrine on the family and matrimony."For a 2,000-year-old institution that believes gay sex is "intrinsically disordered," even posing the question is significant."This is a stunning change in the way the Catholic church speaks of gay people," said the Rev. James Martin, a Jesuit author.
"TheSynod is clearly listening to the complex, real-life experiences of Catholics around the world, and seeking to address them withmercy, as Jesus did."
The bishops repeated that gay marriage was off the table. But it acknowledged that gay partnerships had merit.
"Without denying the moral problems connected to homosexual unions, it has to be noted that there are cases in which mutual aid to the point of sacrifice constitutes a precious support in the life of the partners," they said. For heterosexuals, the bishops said they must grasp the "positive reality of civil weddings" and even cohabitation, with the aim of helping the couple commit eventually to a church wedding. The bishops also called for a re-reading of the 1968 encyclical Humane Vitae that outlined the church's opposition to artificial birth control. The bishops said couples should be unconditionally open to having children, but that the message of Humane Vitae "underlines the need to respect the dignity of the person in the moral evaluation of the methods of birth control."There has been much talk inside the synod about applying the theological concept of the "law of gradualness" in difficult family situations. The concept encourages the faithful to take one step at a time in the search for holiness.
Applying the concept to matters of birth control would be an acknowledgement that most Catholics already use artificial contraception in violation of church teaching. But it would encourage pastors to meet them where they are, and then help them come to understand the full reasoning behind the ban.
Bishops also called for "courageous" new ways to minister to families, especially those "damaged" by divorce. The document didn't take sides in the most divisive issue at the synod, whether Catholics who divorce and remarry without an annulment can receive Communion.
The document said these Catholics deserve respect and should not be discriminated against, and then laid out the positions of both sides: those who want to maintain the status quo barring them from the sacraments, and those who favor a case-by-case approach, in which the couple undertake a path of penance.
Pope Francis has called for a more merciful approach to these couples, but conservatives have insisted there is no getting around Jesus' words that marriage is indissoluble
Buhari Cries Out As He Picks Presidential Form
Former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, has picked the expression of interest and nomination. forms to run for Nigeria’s highest office on the platform of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC at the national secretariat.Mr Buhari, who is running for the fourth time, complained that the N27.5million costof the forms was too exorbitant but that he was helpless in getting it reduced.“It’s a pity I couldn’t influence this amount to be put down as in the case of ladies and the disable that intend to participate. I always look left and right in our meetings but I could not read sympathy, so I kept my trap.
“But I felt heavily sorry for myself because I don’ want to go and ask somebody to pay for my nomination forms, because I always try to pa myself, at least for the nomination.“N27 million is a big sum, thankfully I have personal relationship with the manager of my bank in Kaduna and I told him that very soon the forms are coming, so, whether I am on red, or green or even black please honour it otherwise I may lose thenomination.
“I was about to go to Kaduna this morning and I told the Chairman but he said in that case, you better pick your form and keep a straight face that means there is no excuse,”
Mr. Buhari said. The APC National Chairman, John Oyegun, told Mr. Buhari and his entourage that the party decided to make the nomination fees high “in order to separate the men from the boys”
